‘I found Patti absolutely fascinating, both of them really. I was thrilled with almost every shot from that session. They were both extraordinary. But I think the most extraordinary aspect was the way they related to each other.’ Norman Seeff

Norman would explore every corner of the Big Apple connecting with the personalities defining the city’s lifestyle and emerging culture. He frequented Max’s Kansas City bar at 213 Park Avenue South, a social hub for musicians, poets, artists and politicians during the 1960-70s. That is where he met the likes of Andy Warhol and his Factory entourage and where he befriended Patti and Robert. They hit it off instantaneously and the couple responded excitedly to his request to do a photography session. Norman was unfamiliar of anything about them, other than they were just having a great time together. Seeff shot Patti around April 1969 soon after she had moved into room 207 of the Chelsea Hotel with his then lover Robert. This was six years before her debut album ‘Horses’ and before he began experimenting with a Polaroid camera, which led later to his famous photography.
